Substance Abuse

Did you know that in the state of Kentucky, we recognze three different aspects of dealing with Substance Abuse : (1) Preveniton, (2) Intervention, and (3) Treatment.  What is the difference?

(1) Prevention is when we as a neighborhood, church, community, school, stakeholders, and etc. come together to determine what we need to do to prevent individuals from using or abusing alocohl and drugs.  This is done through lots of people and lots of ways.  During the next few weeks--keep checking with these news articles for an explanation of what type of prevenion is done, where these events are done, and how you can be a part.    There will also be a discussion of what board and credential is the leader for Kentucky.

(2) Intervenion is when individuals are  at risk for having problems with substance abuse or  may be already experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol.  Who are these individuals?  How do I know if my daughter, son, of someone I love has been using-- keep checking back for the answers.

(3) Treatment is for those who have already been abusing drugs and/or alcohol,  and may not be able to stop on their own.   They may have become psychologically dependent or physically addicted.  What does this mean? Where can I find help?  What board oversees this issue in Kentucky?  Keep checking back for tha answers.

Did you know that substance abuse is very similar to gambling and the majority of time they go side-by-side.  Keep checking back to learn more.   What board oversees this issue in Kentucky?
